The Rehabilitation Story of Sushama Khara (Ghorui)
On 3 May 2025, AVIEW staff rescued Sushama Khara (Ghorui) from Sheoraphuli Railway Station and admitted her to the rehabilitation centre. Initially, her mental health condition was not clearly understood. However, further observation revealed symptoms including hallucinations, suspiciousness, frequent quarrelling, prolonged periods of inactivity, and poor personal hygiene. She believed that her mother had killed her son and that her husband would kill her if she returned home. Driven by these fears, she had been living at the railway station for a long time.
With regular psychiatric medication, counselling, and group therapy, her condition gradually improved. She began maintaining her personal hygiene, took responsibility for daily activities, and expressed a desire to reconnect with her family. Through counselling sessions, the rehabilitation team identified her family and established regular communication with them. Her family also provided previous medical prescriptions, which supported her ongoing treatment.
On 12 July 2026, after nearly five years of being missing, Sushama was successfully reunited with her family. Her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to AVIEW for helping her recover and safely return home.
